Daughter of Christopher Columbus Crumpton and Louisa T. Neely, Zoa was born in 1883 near the settlement of Vernon in Wilbarger County, North Texas.

Zoa Ellen married Frank Benton Stephens in Wilbarger County in 1902. She and Frank had four sons. When Frank died suddenly, she married Robert Walter Wilson (1876-1936). Zoa and Robert had seven children.
