Herman Adolph Holtzen, the son of Fred and Martha (Holthusen) Holtzen, was born at Ruskin, Nebraska, on May 25, 1910, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on June 9, 1984, at the age of 74 years and 14 days.

On May 19, 1933, he was united in marriage to Ellen Marie Carpenter of Benedict, Nebraska, at Central City, Nebraska. He farmed in the Giltner, Hampton and Aurora areas for many years. Later he did carpenter work and also owned the Holtzen Processing Plant in Aurora.

He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith as a young teenager at Zion Lutheran Church northeast of Hampton.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Rufus and Lawrence and one nephew.

Those who survive to cherish his memory are his wife, Ellen; five sons, Gerald and Jim both of Aurora, Joe of McKinney, Texas, Larry of Harvard and Dennis of Inavale; daughter, Ilene Schuett of Chapman; two sisters, Ella Panietz of Hampton and Leona Voss of Hebron. He raised two nephews until their early school years and one nephew, Byron Covey of York also survives. He is also survived by 7 grandsons.

Mr. Holtzen had been seriously ill since 1975.
