Not long ago Mr. Robert Pettingall, one of the oldest settlers in Salem, died while spending the season near Petoskey, boarding with a Mr. Dorrance, residing at Boyne City. Mr. Pettingall was noted for his honesty and integrity, and as a strict observer of the laws of the church to which he was attached. Shortly after his death his daughter, wife of Peter Aflin, followed him, her disease being consumption. Another daughter, wife of John Newell, is lying low with the Same disease.
