He was born in Shelton, Nebraska to Emmett and Florence (Cobb) Wood. He married Bettie (Spring) Wood on Sept. 17, 1946 at Butte, Montana.

He served in the US Navy during WWII.

He is also survived by three sons, Kevin Wood of Monterey, California; Carter Wood of Washington, D.C., and Tracy Wood of Fredericksburg, Virginia and a sister, Margery Heyman of Port Orford, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Emmett Holt Wood of Beaverton.

Private family interment is planned at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
