Son of John and Sandora (Davenport) Henry, both of Vermont; and brother of Pvt. James M. Henry.

William enlisted in Company A, Massachusetts 53rd Infantry Regiment on 17 Oct 1862 and mustered out on 02 Sep 1863 at Camp Stevens, Groton, MA.

Second, he enlisted in Company E, Massachusetts 5th Infantry Regiment on 22 Jul 1864 and mustered out on 16 Nov 1864 at Readville, MA.
