The Fredericton Evening Capital, Fredericton, NB Mar 19, 1887: House of Assembly - Richard Bellamy of parish of Southampton (York Co.) was first elected to House of Assembly at the last general election. A son of George W. Bellamy and Nancy Bellamy, he was born in London, England in 1825. He came to N.B. in 1836 and settled down to farming at Stanley. He subsequently removed to Southampton. He is unmarried and educated at the common schools in York. He has held the position of Crown Land Surveyor and also one term in Municipal Council. He is a Liberal. The Daily Sun, St. John, NB Jun 11, 1892: The ancestors of the Hon. Richard Bellamy were of that sturdy and famous race, the Huguenots. When the Huguenots were expelled from France, this family was among those who sought a home and a recognition of their rights in England. The subject of this sketch was born in London in the year 1825. In early life he emigrated to this province. His education was received at the public schools and he afterward qualified himself for the profession of land surveyor. Mr. Bellamy also interested himself in the farming industry and is the owner of valuable farm property. In 1886 he was induced to offer himself as a candidate for the Legislature. He was successful in the campaign that followed and held a seat in the Assembly until the general election of 1890. On March 11th, 1891 he was appointed a member of the Legislative Council. DEATH ANNOUNCEMENT: The Daily Gleaner,Fredericton, NB Nov 30, 1892: The death of Hon. Richard Bellamy occurred at Southampton (York Co.) yesterday. Mr. Bellamy had been suffering for a few days past with congestion of the lungs, but his illness was not thought to be serious. He was a native of London, England and came to this country with the blue boys while quite a young lad and found work in Stanley with Mr. Brewer who kept a tavern there at the time. Mr. Bellamy next engaged in the lumbering business and beginning with an axe soon worked himself up to be an important operator. For some years he was business partner of Thos. Temple, M.P. In 1886 he was first elected to the Legislature of New Brunswick. He was re-elected in the general elections following 1886. Deceased was unmarried and in his 67th years.
