Woodland resident Melvin McKinley Bergstrom, 82, died April 15, 1998, at St. Johns Medical Center. He was born Jan. 29, 1916 in Molalla, Ore., to Ole and Hannah Bergstrom. After graduation from Molalla High School, he went to Canada to run the family farm for several years. He returned to Oregon in 1942 and drove logging trucks for himself and other companies for 45 years. Mr. Bergstrom moved to Woodland in 1970. His hobbies were gardening and working on small mechanical motors. He and Grace Bozorth were married in December 1971. She survives him at home. Also surviving are a son, Melvin "Doug" Bergstrom of Eugene; a stepson, Scott Erion of Lebanon, Ore.; a daughter, Tresa Mote of Eugene; a stepdaughter, Virginia Erion of Cle Elum, Wash.; a brother, Emil Bergstrom of Junction City, Ore.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Smyrna Church in Canby, Ore., will burial to follow in Smyrna Cemetery,. Molalla Funeral Chapel is in charge.
