GRACE LUCILLE BERGSTROM

October 28, 1920 ~ May 11, 2009

Grace Erion Bergstrom was born into one of the founding families, Bozorth's, of Woodland, WA. She dedicated her life to her family and the community. She graduated from Woodland High School in 1938, was a Woodland Planter's Day Queen, and married Emmett Erion in 1942. They enjoyed dancing, bridge, pinochle, and ranching.

She was the bookkeeper for Erion Brother's Logging Company until the death of her husband in 1958.

Grace later married Martin Carty and became the longtime operator of the Woodland Liquor Store where she greeted most folks by their first name and a smile. It was during this time that Grace acquired first and second-hand knowledge of the history of Woodland which sparked her interest in the preservation of the local history.

During the late seventies, Grace married Mel Bergstrom and they enjoyed traveling. After retiring from the liquor store she had more time to spend with her favorite pastimes including family gatherings, baking, canning, gardening, bird watching/feeding, reading, volunteering at the Lilac Gardens, visiting her children, helping her brother share Native American culture with the school children, and continued evenings with her bridge partners.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Helen Bozorth; husbands, Emmett Erion and Mel Bergstrom; and daughter, Glenna Donald (Wayne). Survivors include her brother: Ralph Bozorth (Shirley) of Woodland; sons: John Erion (Kathryn) of Woodland, Scott Erion (Janice) of Lebanon, OR; daughter, Virginia Erion (Jim Miller) of Cle Elum, WA; grandchildren: Glenn Donald (Susan), Drue (John) Ripp, Jill (Jason) Bartosz, Jodi (Dan) Robins, Jacob, Tosonna, Megan, and Genna Durgan, Chelsea Erion-Miller, Jennifer Meyers of Bozeman, MT; and six great-grandchildren.

Donations in Grace's name may be made to the Woodland Historical Society at PO Box 255, Woodland, WA 98674.
