Obituary: Donald Charles Poe passed away on Monday, August 5, 2013. Don was born September 26, 1928 to Hurley Romaine Poe and Zelda Minnie White in Loma Linda. don Sered in the Navy at Moffett Field as a radio-repairman from 8/11/48 - 8/8/52. In 1953, Don went to work for the Redlands Police Department. He rose to the rank of Captain and was a dediated public servant for close to 30 years. don was a civic minded citizen and passionate about his community. He was involved in the Redlands Elks Lodge, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He was a lifetime member of the Elks, serving as Secretary and Past Exalted Ruler. In retirement he served on the Redlands School Board and worked part-time for Cortner Chapel. Don loved to play golf, cards, and bowl and in later years was an active member of the Redlands Lawn Bowling Club.
Don is survived by his brother Gene Poe, of Palm Desert, sister Shirley Lawrence, of Desert Hot Springs, son Darrel Poe, of Redlands, daughter Donna Hoechlin (Mark Walker), of Redlands, daughter Jeri Smith (Dan), daughter Dana Spillane (Mickey), daughter Karen Poe-Buyak, step-daughter Bridget Espinosa (Ben), ste-daughter in law, Kathy, 10 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 7 step-great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his sons, Michael Poe and David Poe and step-son Lester Smith. Services will be held at Cortner Chapel in Redlands on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Private interment will be held at Hillside Memorial Park. Plot: Block 8X Lot 104 Space FL
