Harry was the fourth of seven children (four sons & three daughter) born to Michael J. & Ida (Wetteschreck) Horan.
As a young man, Harry worked as a brakeman & later a switchman for the Soo Line Railroad. In his 1917 WW-I draft registration, he was described as of medium height & stout build with blue eyes & brown hair.
On 16 February 1924, Harry married Mary Pauline Kretman in Saint Paul, MN; he was age 27, she was 17. Born 10 July 1906 in Poland, she was the fifth of eight children born to Krystian & Marie (Fierebach) Krettmann. She came to America in 1912.
Later in life, Harry worked as area superintendent for the Minnesota State Fish Hatchery.
