Elbert Austin Foster, "Mookey", 85, of Buena Vista, died Monday, July 21, 1997, in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Born December 17, 1911 in Buena Vista, he was the son of the late William Foster and Mamie Camden Foster Benson.
He was a loom fixer at Bernson Silk Mills and then a welder at Lees Carpets before retiring. He was a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren, where he was a lifetime Deacon and served as church treasurer for 36 years.

He was preceded in death by a son, James H. Foster.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie Simpson Foster, Buena Vista; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Anne and Marshall Smith, Buena Vista; daughter-in-law, Martha Grae Foster, Richmond; three sisters, Minnie Brown and Myerl Rhodes, both of Buena Vista, and Dorothy Lumpkin, Sandston; a brother, Atlee Benson, Masury, Ohio; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 1997, at the Stone Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Chester Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Lomax Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Stone Church of the Brethren, Memorial Fund, 2162 Forest Ave., Buena Vista, Va. 24416.
