SUTHERLAND, Luther A., 86, of Route 3, Box 446, Staunton, died Friday, October 18, 1996, in Augusta Medical Center. He was born October 20,1909, in Fairmont, W.Va., a son of Otis Tildon and Martha Jane Crawley Sutherland.
Prior to retirement, Mr. Sutherland was owner and operator of L. A. Sutherland Floor Sanding and Finishing. He was associated with Jehovah's Witnesses.
His wife, Mrs. Evelyn Coyner Harlow Sutherland, preceded him in death on December 26, 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Wilson A. Sutherland and Luther T. Sutherland of Staunton; a daughter, Phyllis Sutherland Craig of Vinton; a brother, Walter L. Sutherland of Staunton; a sister, Margaret S. Blackwell of Staunton; five grandchildren, Dana Diamelen Craig Johnson, Sonya Lynn Craig, Romanda Elaine Sutherland and Wanda Annette Sutherland, and a great grandson, Jeremy Craig Johnson.
A service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Mr. Cecil Neff. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Lewis Price, Richard Henkel, Earnest Sutherland; Tom Jones, Keith Bosserman, and Frank Brown.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
It is suggested that those desiring may make memorial donations to the American Heart Association, Staunton-Augusta County Unit, P.O. Box 2614, Staunton, Va. 24402, or the Memorial Trust Fund, Staunton-Augusta County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 2566, Staunton, Va. 24402.
