Sarah Gillis was born in 1834 on the Isle of Skye, Scotland to Norman Nicolson and Ann Nicolson. The family immigrated to Nova Scotia, Canada about 1843, settling in the Big Baddeck area. In 1856 Sarah married Alexander Gillis at Middle River, Nova Scotia. Together the couple had 10 children. Sarah passed away in 1924 in Big Baddeck.
