Elmer G. Edwards, age 81, of Amherst, born on June 18, 1931 in Dickerson County, Virginia passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Cleveland Clinic.

Elmer was a decorated U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He retired from US Steel as a shipping coordinator after 30 years of service. Elmer was also a bus driver for the Amherst Schools for 18 years. His passion was the work he did as an Old Regular Baptist Minister with Little Edna Old Regular Baptist Church.

He enjoyed gardening and more than anything loved his family and his church.

Elmer is survived by his daughters, Cathy Duncan, of Lorain and Deborah (Balazs) Nagy, of Amherst; grandchildren, Michael Duncan, of Amherst and Kimberly Duncan, of Lorain; brother, Danny (Loretta) Edwards, of Clinchco, VA; and sister, Dixie ( Bobby) Edwards, of Birchleaf, VA.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Eva Faye Edwards, in April 2012; parents; brothers, Buford, Robert and Hansel Edwards; sister, Lois Mullins.

The Edwards family will receive family and friends on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst and on Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at 9:30 a.m. at Little Edna Old Regular Baptist Church, 5160 Bond Avenue, Lorain. Elder Larry Newsome and Elder Dennis Elkins, will officiate. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
