Former Floyd County Probate Court Judge Harry Johnson, Jr., age 71, of 2694 Old Rockmart Rd., Rt. 1, Silver Creek, died Friday evening at 7:25 at a local hospital.

Mr. Johnson was born in Floyd County on April 1, 1919, the son of the late Harry Johnson, Sr. and the late Eula H. Bradshaw Johnson. He was a graduate of Emory University and the Massey Law School. He was a member of the South Broad United Methodist Church where he held numerous offices. The South Broad United Methodist Church was founded in the home of his grandfather, Judge Henry Johnson in 1873. He served with the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II. Prior to his retirement in July of 1989, Judge Johnson served as Ordinary, which later became Floyd County Probate Court Judge, for 32-1/2 years. The Office of Ordinary was previously held by his father and grandfather. He was a member of the Lindale Masonic Lodge #445 F & AM, the Low Twelve Club, the Floyd County Democratic Association, the Floyd County Farm Bureau and the Midway Ruritan Club. He was married on March 11, 1946 to the former Lois Edna McGee who survives.

Surviving besides his wife are 1 daughter, Janis Johnson Roberts of Silver Creek; 1 son, Harry Johnson III of Silver Creek; 1 sister, Mrs. Lewis (Gaynell) Lindsey of Silver Creek; 3 grandsons, Mark and Lee Roberts and Harry Johnson IV; 2 nephews, Lewis T. Lindsey and Wayne B. Lindsey.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the South Broad United Methodist Church with the Rev.'s John Pinson and Warren Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church Sunday from 2 until 3 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the South Broad United Methodist Church.

The family received friends Saturday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home.
