Judge Johnson had been in failing health the past few months and recently suffered an attack from which he never recovered.
Following in the footsteps of his father, Ordinary Johnson was elected to office in 1912 and had served continuously since that date. Twenty years before his election, his father died in office after having served about 40 years as ordinary.
Judge Johnson was born in Rome in 1875, the son of the late Judge Henry Joseph Johnson and Margaret Rhudy Johnson. He was married June 28, 1918, to Miss Eula Bradshaw, who survives him. He was active in church and civic affairs in Rome and Floyd County throughout his long career. He was a past master of the Lindale Masonic Lodge, a steward of the South Broad Methodist Church, a member of the Odd Fellows, the Woodmen of the World and the Chamber of Commerce.
Surviving besides the widow are one son, Harry Johnson Jr., a daughter, Gaynelle Johnson, two sisters, Mrs. T. B. House and Miss Blanche Johnson, a brother, Marvin Johnson and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 5 o'clock at the South Broad Methodist Church, with the Pastor, the Rev. Earl Strickland, officiating, assisted by Dr. Claud Hendrick, Pastor of the First Methodist Church. Burial will be in the family lot in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be selected from the Board of Stewards of South Broad Methodist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be other members of the Board and Floyd County courthouse officials.
The body will be taken to the residence on the Rockmart Road to lie in state until time for the funeral service.
