Funeral services for Shirley Broekemeier age 77 of West Point, NE will be on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Nielsen Community Center in West Point, NE. Interment will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from noon to 8:00 p.m., with the family receiving relatives and friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the Nielsen Community Center. Shirley passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Multicare Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, WA. Shirley Ann Broekemeier was born on October 9, 1935 in Cuming Co., Nebraska to Rollin and Linda (Heller) Bradfield. Shirley was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Beemer. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School through the eighth grade and later obtained her GED. Shirley helped on the family farm and later worked at the Dry Goods Store in Beemer, NE. On May 8, 1955, she was united in marriage to Walter F. Broekemeier at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Beemer. Shirley remained at home while raising their children. She faithfully supported her husband through their businesses Broekemeier Construction and Broekemeier Showcase. Shirley was a very active member of the Elkhorn Valley Assembly of God Church and its Women's Group, was a member of West Point Toastmasters, Elkhorn Valley Sam's Camping Club, and Indian Trails Saddle Club. She loved Jesus and her family, enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and baking, tending to her flowers, loved being outdoors, camping, sewing, music, singing, playing the accordion and piano, and loved to read. Shirley was always very thoughtful towards the needs of others. Survivors include her children; Rick and (Marti), David and (Cindy), Joyce and (Robert), Amy; grandchildren Ashley (Kurt), Brianna (Cody) and daughter Rayna, Carly, Desirae, Derek (Molly) and daughter Adele, Jordan, Jason (Abbie), Kelsi (Alex), Katie, Lockland, Lucas, Amber, Cassie; sister Delva Brokaw; brothers Lyle (Nancy), Virgil (Jean), Dale (Dorothy), Rollie (Karen); and brother-in-law Larry Drews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Rollin and Linda Bradfield, husband-Walter, son-Roger daughter-in-law Robin, and sister Rolene Drews.
