Phillip Ervin Adkins
(February 4, 1933 - July 29, 2013)

Phillip Ervin Adkins age 80 of Harrison, TN formerly of Scott County passed away on Monday, July 29, 2013 in Hixon, TN. Born in Winfield, TN on February 4, 1933 he was the son of the late Francis and Bessie Lawson Adkins.

After graduating from Oneida High School, Phillip served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received his undergraduate degree from Williamsburg College in Kentucky and his Masters in Chemistry from Southern Mississippi University. He taught high school in Fairborn, Ohio, then retired from teaching and moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee where he devoted his time to breeding and raising Labrador Retrievers.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Jean Linger and Jo Ann Thompson.

He is survived by his brother Robert Adkins of Winfield, Tennessee; sister Shirley McCreary of Astor, Florida; nephews: Mike Meadors of Jacksonville, Florida, Chris Smith of Covington, Kentucky, and Doug Linger of Georgetown, Kentucky; nieces Cyndi White of Oneida, Tennessee and Bonnie Beckman of Cincinnati, Ohio; many other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit with the Adkins family on Saturday, August 3, 2013 from 11 a.m. until time of the memorial service at 12 noon in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Adkins Cemetery in Winfield. Jones & Son Funeral Home is serving the family of Phillip Ervin Adkins.
