Jo Ann Adkins Thompson
(June 30, 1936 - July 8, 2013)

Jo Ann Adkins Thompson of Oneida passed away on July 8, 2013 at the age of 77. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Bessie and Francis Adkins, and her sister Jean Linger. Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 55 years, John Roy Thompson; one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley McCleary and husband Lawrence McCleary of Astor Florida; two brothers, Robert Adkins of Winfield and Philip Adkins of Harrison TN; nephews: Chris Smith of Independence, KY, Douglas Linger of Georgetown, KY and Michael Meadows of Jacksonville, FL; one niece, Bonnie Beckman and her husband Ed Beckman of Mt Healthy, OH.

Jo Ann graduated from Lincoln Memorial University with a degree in nursing at the age of 42. She went to work as a nurse to supplement the family income. Her nursing career spanned many years having worked at the Scott County Hospital, Oneida Nursing Center and for Dr. Leeds. Jo Ann had a passion for the craft of knitting, crocheting and tailoring. She was an avid student in the study of gem stones and loved designing jewelry. Jo Ann was a talented painter with a fondness for still-life. She earned a brown belt in karate, preferred working in her flower garden to cooking in the kitchen, and enjoyed traveling around the world, especially in Israel. And by her loving hands she turned a house into a home for her and John. She enjoyed teaching a ladies Sunday school class at Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oneida. She was a devoted follower of Dr. Arnold Murry.

Jo Ann took great pride in maintaining the flower gardens at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post and worked hard as a member of the ladies auxiliary supporting our military veterans. She was given an award at the Memorial Day service for her years of dedication devotion. She was also a big supporter of the Oneida Senior Citizens Center.

As her caretakers in her hour of need, a deep sense of appreciation and love is extended to Chris Smith, Pat and Bob Johnson, Richard Robbins, Cathy Robbins, Sue Posey, T.J. Tesh, Betty Brewster, Wanda Jordan, Cyntha Atkinson and Cyndi and Randy White.

Friends may visit with the Thompson family on Friday, July 12, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until time of the memorial service at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Jones and Son Funeral Home, with Richard Robbins officiating, and music provided by Allen Martin.
