Charles S. Flack, 99, of Greensburg, formerly of North Huntingdon, passed away at home Friday, July 26, 2013.
He was born Oct. 28, 1913, in Scottdale, the last surviving sibling of 11 children born to the late Reuel and Agnes (Shaffer) Flack. He was married to Sarah A. (Preston) Flack, who preceded him in death in 1983.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Adhara, AK 71, a retired employee of the Westinghouse Airbrake Company, Wilmerding, and a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church, North Huntingdon, Shidle Lodge No. 601, Free and Accepted Masons, Irwin, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Westmoreland Forest No. 77 and the Junior O.U.A.M. Charles enjoyed being with his family, gardening and was a master carpenter. He will be greatly missed by his family.
He is survived by three daughters, Constance (Marvin) Yokum, of North Carolina, Judith "Holli" Blackwell, of Texas, and Cheryl Schell, of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special friend LaVerne Caldwell.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, 724-863-1200, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ms. Janet Reid, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Union Cemetery.
