Chico Record, Sunday Morning, October 13, 1907, pg 5 col 2: Mrs. Addie Wells Dies of Old Age and Exposure. Mrs. Addie Wells, aged 84 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carpenter, on Nord avenue, yesterday morning, from old age and lack of medical attendance.

Deceased was a native of Ricksburg [sic], Mass., where she was born in 1823. She came to Chico about two years ago and resided with her daughter at the Nord avenue home.

No physician was present when death occurred, and Coroner Wallace held an inquest yesterday afternoon. A verdict of death resulting from exposure and old age was returned. The funeral will be held today from the Nord avenue home, Rev. W.G. White officiating.

Chico Record, Tuesday, October 15, 1907, pg 7 col 5: Death Due to Old Age and Exhaustion. In the Record's report of the death of Mrs. Addie Wells, it was erroneously stated that death was due to "old age and exposure." The fact was that death was due to "old age and exhaustion," and this was so stated in the verdict of the coroner's jury. The aged lady resided at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carpenter, on Nord avenue, where she had the best of care and all that would tend to afford comfort and happiness during her declining years.

83-year-old Abbie Wells was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on October 13, 1907. There is no marker.

Chico Record, Tuesday, October 15, 1907, pg 5 col 4: Funeral of Mrs. Wells. The funeral of the late Mrs. Abbie Wells, who died at the home of her daughters, Mrs. Chas. R. Carpenter, on Oakway, Saturday, from old age, was held Sunday from the home, Rev. W.G. White officiating. The deceased was a native of Roxbury, Mass., and was 84 years of age.
