Georgia ‘Doc' Duvell Bates, 93, of Benton, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010 at the family residence. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church. She retired after 35 years of service in the sewing industry.

Doc was the daughter of the late John Henry Shields and Emma Louise Lawson Shields and was also preceded in death by her husband, Amos Alfred Bates; children: Sybil Bates Wilson, Wanda Sue Bates and Terry Bates; sister, Opal Amelda Shields Evans.

She is survived by her children: Leon ‘Bo' Bates, Doug, Aundrey, Randy ‘Cotton' Bates, Sandy, and Tammy; several grandchildren and a grandchild: (details of living relatives not permitted by Findagrave. I only use given names, no grandchildren or greats named. See obit for that info.)

Doc was such a sweet and kind lady and greatly loved by all who knew her.
