Barbara Aebly Feb. 29, 1852 – June 29, 1939
Mrs. Barbara Aebly passes Away at Home of Daughter in Juda Thursday.
Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Aebly, 87 years of age, a native of Switzerland and a
former Monticello resident, who passed away Thursday at the home of a daughter, Mrs.
Casper Schindler, Juda, following an illness of only a few days with lobar pneumonia, were held at 2 Saturday afternoon in the Voegeli funeral home. The services were in accordance with the rites of the International Bible Students' association.
Burial was in Highland cemetery. Six grandsons were pallbearers, as follows: Wilbert Pluss
and Willis Blum, Monticello; Earl and Kenneth Wittwer, Arena, Herman Pluss, Albany, and
Albert Schindler, Juda.

Barbara Jenny was a native of Switzerland, having been born in Canton Glarus Feb. 29,
1852, the daughter of Daniel and Magdalena Trumpy Jenny. On June 11, 1872, she was united in marriage in Canton Glarus to Melchior Aebly. In 1881 the couple left Switzerland, coming to America to make their future home. They settled in Clarno township, where they resided for one year. Then they moved to a farm in Exeter township, which they conducted for a short time. In 1884 Mr. Aebly purchased the Melchior Marty homestead farm in Washington township, a few miles west of Monticello. In 1915, after 32 years of farming in Washington township, Mr. and Mrs. Aebly moved to Monticello, having purchased a home on Monroe street. Her husband passed away in 1925. Mrs. Aebly continued to make her home in Monticello until eight years ago when she went to live with her daughter near Juda. Mrs. Aebly had established a large circle of friends during the 40 years in which she lived in and near Monticello, all of whom learned of her sudden and unexpected death with sincere regret. Despite her advanced years she was active and well and always prided herself with being able to read and do close work without the aid of glasses.

Mrs. Aebly is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Alfred Wittwer, Arena, Wis., Mrs. Robert
Blum and Mrs. John Pluss, Monticello, Mrs. Schindler, Juda, and Mrs. Ben Zweifel,
Brodhead; two sons, Fred Aebly, Waukegan, Ill., and Daniel Aebly, Monticello; a sister in
Switzerland, 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one daughter in infancy.
