Rachel was the daughter of Peter & Emily (Hightower) Cantrell. Her mother died when she was just four years old. Her father then moved the family back to his boyhood home in South Carolina.
She married Nathaniel Parris, about 1841, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.
She was the mother of eleven known children;
