Frederick Fuess, one of the best known and most successful merchants of Watertown, died of Bright's disease at his home on Massey street Saturday morning after a long illness. Mr. Fuess had been confined to his bed for several weeks prior to his death.

Mr. Fuess was a native of Germany and was born at Antwieler, May 23, 1841. When a young man he came to this county and located in Watertown in 1866. He has since been in business here and at the time of his death he had been in the grocery business longer than any man in the city that is now actively engaged in it.

Mr. Fuess was a business man of ability and during the 35 years that he conducted the grocery business on Court street he won a reputation of being a careful, conservative businessman. Mr. Fuess was a very popular man and numbered his friends by the hundreds. His death is greatly regretted by all who know him.

In politics Mr. Fuess was always a loyal Democrat and in his death the party loses a strong supporter of Democratic principles. Mr. Fuess was elected alderman from the fourth ward in 1893. He was a member of Jefferson Union lodge, I.O.O.F., and of Crotona lodge, K. of P.

Besides his wife, Mr. Fuess leaves a son, Frederick W. Fuess, of this county, and a daughter, Mrs. Charles R. Coville of Camden, N.Y.

Tuesday afternoon the funeral was held from the family home in Massey street.
