WILLIAM COSTAS VALPARAISO, IN
William Costas, 84, of Valparaiso passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at home. He was born June 18, 1929 in Detroit, MI to Peter and Katherine Costas. William graduated from Stockbridge High School. He began his career as a buyer for Gary Produce, founded Wilco Foods in Miller in 1962, then owned and operated Costas Foods from 1972 - 1998. He was elected to the Indiana Senate in 1980 and served through 1988. Bill was a member of Liberty Bible Church, served on the Board of A.M.G. International, a Christian mission based in Chattanooga, TN for 19 years serving as Director for 16 years, and also served on the Boards of Centrella Grocers, Franklin Park, IL and Spring Hill Camps. On October 20, 1973 he married Diane Owen who survives along with children: Janis Kathryn Costas of Boone, NC, Jay (Cheryl) Costas of Valparaiso, Jon (Sharon) Costas of Valparaiso, Whitney (Bobby) Keough of St. Maarten, Marcy (George) Romeos of Athens, Greece, and Jamie (Peter) Carlson of Valparaiso; sister, Vicky Zimmer of Port Huron, MI; 17 grandchildren: Brandon (Emily) Costas, Kari (Steve) Whitney, Calli (Alan) Courtney, David Costas, Samantha Costas, Ashley (Chris) Therasse, Evan Costas, Hayley Costas, Tyler Costas, William Romeos, Diana Romeos, Tiffany Romeos, Whitney Romeos, Gabrielle Carlson, Jack Carlson, Flynn Carlson, and Eva Carlson; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings: James, Gus, Jenny, Anna, and John. A visitation will be held Friday, July 26, 2013 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Liberty Bible Church, 824 N. Calumet Ave., Chesterton, IN. The funeral service will begin Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Robert Nienhuis officiating. Burial at Angelcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to A.M.G. International for Cosmovision Center in Greece or Spring Hill Camps in Evart, MI.
