He was born in Stoneboro, PA on March 16, 1918 a son of the late George E. and Mary (Hosack) Bromley. At an early age, following the death of his father, Bill was raised in the Odd Fellows Home, Meadville. On April 24, 1945 he married the former Mary Catherine Knauf who survives. He had been employed by the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad, having retired in 1973 with 27 years of service. Following his retirement, he drove school bus transporting students in the Commodore Perry School District and also had worked as an attendant at the rest areas of I-79. He was a 45 year member of the United Transportation Union. He was a Life member of the Jerusalem Christian Church, Greenville. He had served with the U.S. Army during W.W. II in the Pacific Theatre following the attack on Pearl Harbor.
In addition to his wife of 68 years, he is survived by three daughters, Linda Osborne of DeSoto, Missouri, Amelia (Millie) Riley and her husband Steve of Greenville and Wilma K. White and her companion Timothy Gill of Hadley, 2 sons, Bruce W. Bromley and his wife Janice of Conneautville and Kenneth R. Bromley of Greenville.
A sister in law Eloise Bromley of Isle Palm, SC and a brother in law, Donald Knauf of Greenville. 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, James R. Bromley, John Bromley, George Bromley, Norman Bromley and Dwayne Bromley, a sister in law Elizabeth Ann O"Lear and a brother in law James A. Knauf.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 169 Second Street, Fredonia with Pastor John Canon of the Jerusalem Christian Church officiating. The committal service will military honors accorded by the Greenville VFW Post # 3374 will follow at the Hadley Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00- 7:00 pm and on Tuesday from 10: 00 am until 11:00 time of service.
