Laverne Horton
BONHAM - Funeral services for Laverne Horton "Nanny", 85, of Dodd City, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 in Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. James Rogers and Rev. Clay Horton will officiate. Burial will follow in Smyrna Cemetery. Laverne passed away Wednesday night, July 24, 2013 at Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veteran's Home in Bonham.
Laverne was born Dec. 17, 1927 in Fannin County, the daughter of Clarence D. Herriage and Ruth Dunn Herriage. She attended school in Dodd City. Laverne married Oscar Lee Horton on Feb. 7, 1947 in Dodd City, and their marriage of 66 years ended with his death May 10, 2013. She worked for Fannin Manufacturing for a number of years and was a member of the Lannius United Methodist Church. A homemaker at heart, Laverne loved sewing, cooking, taking care of children and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, L.D. Herriage, Gene Herriage and Pat Herriagel; and a sister, Marcel Herriage.
Laverne is survived by her son, Harold Horton of Dodd City; daughters, Rita L. Horton and Nancy Horton, both of Sherman; sisters-in-law, Lois Maxwell of Dodd City, Joyce Herriage of Levelland, Vonetta Herriage of Sayre, Okla.; three grandchildren, Johnny Horton and wife, Carrie, Brenton Horton and wife, Cynthia and Brandon Horton and five great-grandchildren, Holden, Jade, Justin, Hunter and Fletcher; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Holden Horton, Jade Horton, Justin Horton, Hunter Horton, Fletcher Horton, Gary Maxwell, Nathan Rogers, Casey Rogers, Colby Rogers, Mark Herriage and Jerry Herriage.
Memorials may be made to the Lannius United Methodist Church.
