Adelina "Addie" (Ferreira) DeRosa

Adelina DeRosa completed her life in this world and went to join her husband and the Lord on Saturday, April 17, 2010. Adelina was born February 5, 1917 to Jose and Florinda Ferreira in Hanford, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Joe Ferreira, and sisters Margaret Galantuomini, and Aurora Lemos.

She attended many local country schools throughout her childhood then married her childhood sweetheart, George DeRosa on April 22, 1935. They were married for 63 years when he passed away in 1998. Until George passed away the two of them had the travel bug and took countless trailer trips with friends throughout the United States and Canada. They could be found on the road for weeks at a time. Addie, Tia Addie, or Madrinha, as she was called by her family and friends, was always close to the Lord and loved by all. She found strength in the Lord, and was known for her loving and caring attitude. She was also known for how she only found the goodness in people. There was never a harsh word about anyone she knew. She was positive and always thankful for her blessings. She would always be seen with that friendly and welcoming smile on her face. For as long as she was able, she kept so many Portuguese traditions alive, whether it be baking Portuguese desserts, sweet bread, fixing beans or attending Portuguese celebrations, and would talk about the importance of family. The family remembers so many of these precious moments as they watch old 8mm movies the family had taken through the years. She was a member of Portuguese societies, UPPEC, and SPRSI, of which she served as president for two years.

Addie is survived by her loving daughter, Carolyn, who had been at her side in Hanford the last several years, and many Godchildren, nieces, and nephews. Because most the nieces and nephews all grew up together on "the ranch," "Tia Addie" was like a mother to all of them. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Vera DeRose and Gizela DeRose, both of Hanford, and Alice Dutra of Fremont, CA.
