He graduated from East Buchanan Community High School, Winthrop, in 1966; where he became a member of the National Honor Society and was awarded the American Legion School Award. He attended the American Institute of Business, Des Moines, Iowa and joined the Phi Theta Pi Fraternity. His memberships include the National Honor Society, Sportsman's Club, and the Wisconsin Office Managers' Association. He had previously worked as an office manager for Cal-Car Farm Service, Rockwell City, Iowa and Calhoun County R.E.C., Rockwell, Iowa. He was currently the office manager for Crawford Electric Cooperative.
He is survived by his wife Gail, Gays Mills, two daughters, Mrs. John (Dawn) Kvigne Ferryville, Wisconsin and Kimberly of Gays Mills; his parents, Gerald and Lucille Shaffer, Winthrop, Iowa; four sisters, Carol Matteson, Albion, Iowa; Nancy Werner, Winthrop, Iowa; Bonny Brucka, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Judy Harris of Center Point, Iowa; two brothers, Gerald Jr., Independence, Iowa and Paul, Aurora, Iowa.
Funeral services were Friday, May 6, 1994 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Gays Mills, Wisconsin. The Rev. Leon Rausch and Rev. Allen Skrede of Believers Fellowship of Viroqua, Wisconsin officiated. Burial followed in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin.
