Gerald was son of Mathias J. and Alice Dudley Shaffer.
He married Lucille F. Wintringer on Feb 27, 1933 at Sacred Heart Church in Walker.
Gerard died Jan 16, 1999 in KLiving Center East in Cedar Rapids following a lengthy illness. He was 87 years old.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ethel Fay and Mina Beatty, one brother Donnell Shaffer and one son, Ralph Scott Shaffer and one foster son, Gary Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille of Winthrop, two sons, Gerald Dudley Shaffer, JR (Janice) of Independence, Paul Stuart Shaffer of Aurora, four daughters Carol Marie Matteson (Duane) of Albion, Nancy Joe (Charles) Werner of Winthrop, Bonny Lee (Bob) Prucha of Cedar Rapids, Judy Diane (Jack) Harris of Center Point, one daughter in law, Gail Beasley of Evansdale, one foster daughter Jolana Thein of Arlington,thirty six grandchildren and fifty six great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.. Also three sisters, Winifred Hemphill of Walker, Annabel Fritz of Marshalltown, Mary Buck of Lancaster, CA, three brothers, Dale Marvin Shaffer of Center Point and Alan Shaffer of Cedar Rapids..
Burial was in St Patrick's cemetery in Winthrop.
