Iowa Delegate to the 1846 Constitutional Convention. Socrates Tryon subsequently moved his family to California, then to Oregon in 1851 after the Great Fire in San Francisco. He was a forester, who donated the property of Tryon Canyon as a public park and watershed, today called Tryon Creek State Park.
