Franklin D. Boyd, 67, of Evansville, went home to be with the Lord at 4:50 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at Deaconess Hospital.

Franklin was born August 3, 1941, in Evansville, the son of the late Leo and Carrie Lee Boyd. He was a 1959 graduate of Lincoln High School in Evansville, where he excelled in football and track. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he was an air policeman and a marksman with the 45 Pistol Team. He was a member of the Cleaves Memorial C.M.E. Church. He was an avid baseball fan, who also enjoyed watching sports. He loved getting into his car and listening to Jazz. Franklin was the type of man who believed in others' needs before his own. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Boyd, and one aunt, Grace Kyles.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Burna Dean Boyd of Evansville; two daughters, Lisa Hines (Darrell) of Evansville and Serena Michelle Potts of Elkhart, Ind.; two sons, Michael Boyd (Michelle) of Evansville and Jamal Boyd of Evansville; five grandchildren, Daylan, Stephan, Kevin Jr., Kyra and Tiarra; one sister, Bernice Williams of Indianapolis; stepmother, Beatrice Grissett of Evansville; four brothers and a sister, Elgin Reynolds of Indianapolis, Bernice Williams (George), Wilton Boyd (Ella) and the Rev. Jewell Boyd (Sandra), all of Evansville, and the Rev. Phillip Boyd (Frances) of Marion, Ind.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

His homegoing celebration will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at the Cleaves Memorial C.M.E. Church, with the Rev. Connie Baltzell eulogizing, assisted by the Rev. Bobby Joe Robinson, the master of ceremony.

Visitation is Thursday from 11 a.m. to services at the church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Final care and arrangements entrusted to Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel, 1001 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN (812) 421-8692.
