Registered for the World War I draft on September 12, 1918 and Washington County, Kentucky and stated his full name and date of birth as 6-4-1881. He said he lived at RFD 3, Lebanon, and was a farmer married to Mary Leona Mattingly. He could not write so signed his name with the mark of "X". He described himself as being of medium height and built with brown eyes and that he was bald.

His World War II draft records shows him born 6-4-1881. I don't know which year is correct but his headstone also shows 1881.
