Robert L. "Rob" Slaven, Sr., age 74 of Fairborn, passed away Friday July 19, 2013 in the Hospice of Dayton. He was born May 19, 1939 in Louisville, KY, the son of Luther and Dorothy (Bodie) Slaven. Robert retired from Dayton Progress where he was employed as a machinist. He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Jerry Wayne Slaven. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Patty; five children, Maxine Myers of Fairborn, Robert Slaven, Jr. of Springfield, Kimberly Bennington of Fairborn, Jerry (Kim) Slaven of Fairborn, Jennifer Slaven of Fairborn; 23 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; his mother of Mason, OH; two brothers, Eddie and Mitchell; four sisters, Florence, Wanda, Kay, and Ruby; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday July 24, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday July 25, 2013 at 10:30 A.M., Rev. Vernon Hurles officiating. Burial will follow in the Byron Cemetery.
