Laird Dean Billings was born September 30, 1920, in Duchesne, Utah, to George Victor Billings and Maggie Marie Bingham.He married his sweetheart, Helen Virginia Jack, on December 30, 1940. Their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 22, 1942. He served his country during World War II and spent years of service to his community.
Laird left us with his strong testimony and legacy of service. He will be known for his willingness to give of his time and talents. His love of his wife and family was always shown by a kind, thoughtful manner. He served in all organizations of the LDS Church including bishop, stake high council, high priest group leader, Sunday School, MIA, and dedicated home teacher.
Laird is survived by his five children, Patricia Simpson, LeRoy and Mary Jo Billings, Larry and Suzanne Billings, Peggy and Miles Hurley, and Becky Billings; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a stepbrother, John Georgell. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, and a grandson Steven Jeffrey Billings.
Services will be held Wednesday, December 16, 1998, at 11 a.m. in the Hillcrest 1st Ward Chapel, 1450 South 800 East in Orem. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State St., Orem, and also Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the services at the ward chapel. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
