Luida Mae Thompson was born to Thomas and Lina (nee Johnson) Thompson in Daviess County, KY. On 11 Jul 1900 in Henderson County, KY, she married John Claudus Grigsby. Over the next almost thirty years, they would have nine known children: Martha Ann 'Mattie' (1901–1983), Sarah Negley (1904–1990), Birdie Lee (1906–1994), Gilbert Bennett (1910–1995), Herschel Lawrence (1913–1996), Lloyd Varner (1916–1998), Margret Ann (1921–2008), Vernie Eugene "Fuzzie" (1923–1987), and Helen Thelmar (1926–).

On 26 Dec 1946, John Grigsby died leaving her a widow with all of the kids 20 or older. After about seven years, on 24 Jan 1953 in Marion County, OH, she married a widower, George Orville Beaver. Unfortunately, he died just three years later.
