Long time Taft resident Norman Earl Byrd succumbed to a long term illness Tuesday July 10, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Betty Jo Byrd. They met in Sapulpa, Oklahoma while he was in the ministry. They married in 1953. Norman spent the early part of his adult life as a Pentecostal Church of God Minister in Oklahoma. He moved his family to Taft in 1956 where he worked in the oil industry until his retirement in 1987. It was in the oil patch that he earned his nickname "Stormin Norman" as he was always ready to get 'er done.
