LILLIAN CHITWOOD SMILEY, 94, of Memphis, died Monday at Wesley Highland Manor after a long illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel with burial in Memorial Park. She was a member of Buntyn Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Smiley, the widow of James E. Smiley, leaves two daughters, Evelyn Russle Dibrell of Sabinal, Texas, and Dorothy S. Lee of Memphis, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. The family requests that any memorials be made to Buntyn Presbyterian Church. (Published in The Commercial Appeal on December 4, 1991)

James and Lillian were married 28 NOV 1918 in Dyer County, Tennessee.

Personal note: When I was a small child I attended dance lessons at Jane Bischoff's dance school just up the street from where Lillian and Jim lived. Many times Mother and I would stop by Lillian's house in conjunction with my dance lessons. But most of my memories of Lillian were when she visited my uncle Allen Chitwood's house and we would all have dinner and then visit while my mother and my aunts worked on their needlepoint.
