Charles F. Boardman, age 85, of Plymouth and Largo, FL formerly of Concord, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 at Morton Plan Hospital in Clearwater, FL. He was the husband of Thelma (Fisher) Boardman. Born April 13, 1926 in Somerville, MA, he was the son of the late Edward and Nora (Barrington) Boardman. He was raised and educated in Somerville and then enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served two tours in Germany before being honorably discharged in 1946 as a Sargent. He then attended and graduated from the State Police Academy. Sargent Boardman served with the Concord Police Department for many years and was the first Juvenile Specialist. He was a Charter member and the first President of the Massachusetts Juvenile Police Officers Association. He was one of the first Instructors at Middlesex Community College for the Criminal Justice course work and degree and also conducted training programs through out the state for Police Working with Juveniles and co-authored a book | Police Probation Guidelines. Sargent Boardman worked for many years as the Regional Director for the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services and retired as the Assistant Deputy Commissioner. He enjoyed spending time with his family, wintering inFlorida and returning to Plymouth for the summer months. He enjoyed playing golf, reading, country music, horses and was an avid story teller. He was also a member of the Concord Lodge of Elks and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Association. Besides his loving wife; he is survived by his children, Elaine DeRome and her husband Donald of Baldwinville, John Boardman and his wife Diane of Haverhill and Thomas Boardman and his wife Ellen of Townsend. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kathryn, Christine, Emily, Abigail, John Jr., Thomas Jr., Kelly and Kevin, as well as seven great-grandchildren. Services are private. Concords town flag will fly at half-staff in honor of Sargent Boardmans service to his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, as well as the Town of Concords Police Department, in service to its youth.
