Orva Jepson

Hurricane

Orva Jepson, age 86 of Hurricane, Utah passed away in her sleep, Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the home of her daughter surrounded by loved ones.

Orva was born May 23, 1927 in American Fork, UT to Lloyd LaVerl and Rachel Hatch Richins.

Married to Layne Walton Jepson March 25, 1950, marriage solemnized in St George Temple Feb 20, 1965.

Orva has always been a hard worker. She began working because of the war and the need for women to step into the job market. Her first job was Purity Biscuit Co. where they made crackers for the service men. She worked next at the Deseret Press where they made small pocket sized Books of Mormon for the military, blue covers for the Navy, and brown covers for the Army. After the war she met and married Layne W. Jepson, a truck driver from Hurricane, Ut. She has lived in Hurricane for 58 years.

She worked at various jobs throughout her married life, helping to supplement the income while they were raising their children, but her main focus and priority was always being there for her children.

Her family was her life. She was her grandchildren and great grandchildren's biggest fan, attending hundreds of music, dance, and sporting events. She crocheted many treasured gifts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served faithfully in many positions.

In 1980 she was called to her favorite and final calling which was an eighteen month mission for the church extraction program. She was released from that calling thirty years later.

She had a strong testimony of the gospel and wanted her family to know of her love for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Proceeded in death by parents Lloyd LaVerl and Rachel Richins, husband Layne W. Jepson, sisters Rea Clifford and Nelda Bird, and two grandsons, Matthew Strong and Cameron Shaw.

Survived by brother Lloyd LaVerl Richins Jr. (Utahna), Hurricane.
