Clinton Russell, age 77, of Maryville, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013, at his home. He was a retired 22 year veteran of the US Army, and received the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and "V" Device, Bronze Star with 3rd Oak Leaf Cluster and "V" Device, Combat Infantry Badge, Air Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 6th AWD, 4 Overseas Service Bars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and also retired from Sertoma Learning Center. He attended Everett High School and graduated in 1984 from UT with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Mr. Russell was a 32nd degree Mason and Scottish Rite, and was a member and Deacon of Trinity Baptist Church. Loving husband, father, grandfather, he loved to laugh and loved the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Maude Russell; brothers, Max Russell, Dewey Russell, Otto Russell, Maurice Russell, Elmer Clark, David Russell, Willie Creed Russell, and Don Russell; sisters, Ocie Wikle and Mary Edith Boyd. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances Russell; daughters and sons-in-law, Joy and Mike Paine and Tanya and Todd Thomas; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Teresa Russell; grandchildren, Dannah Joyner, Michael Paine, Misty Russell, Chanse Davis, Destiny Davis, Savannah Davis, Russell Thomas, Seth Thomas, and Courtney Thomas; great-grandchildren, Paige Joyner, Christopher Joyner, Jaden Johnson, and Mason Yeaman; sister, Marlene Morrow; and lots of nieces and nephews. Family and friends will gather 11:00 AM Saturday, July 20, 2013, at New Providence Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery for the graveside service and interment, Rev. Damon Gibson officiating.
