You have sent commissions, I understand, to our Quarter Master Commissary so I suppose I am equally entitled to mine as also Asst. Surgeon J[ackson] L. Riley. Very Respectfully, Your Ob't Svt. Wm. Aills, Surgeon 6th Miss Vols."

Dr. Aills was a doctor during the Civil War, at the battle of Port Gibson. He cared for the soldiers under the command of Col Robert Lowry who later became brigadier General and still later Governor of Mississippi. They was a member of the 6th.Mississippi Company A. As a battle field doctor, he cared for my relative W. G. Steen, who is also burried in this cememtery.
