Miss Velma Mae Foster, 90, of Winston-Salem, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born May 1, 1911, in Davie County to George Kimbrough and Cora Lee Mitchell Foster. She moved to Winston-Salem with her family in 1929, later moving to Fraternity Church Road in 1935. She was a member of Clemmons United Methodist Church for 67 years and a member of the Wesley Sunday school class, and the Annie Alspaugh Circle. She worked in the nursery and taught primary children's classes. She worked at P.H. Hanes Knitting Mill for 45 years. After retiring, she kept children in their home while their parents worked. She loved children and all responded to her love. Miss Foster was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mozelle Hall; and a brother, William T. Foster. She is survived by two sisters, Ethel F. Taylor of Winston-Salem and Mary Ellen Anderson of Winston-Salem; two brothers, G. Leo Foster of Winston-Salem, and G.K. and Margaret Foster of Clemmons; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2001, at Clemmons United Methodist Church by the Rev. David Baxler and the Rev. Karla Farabow. Miss Foster will lie in state from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.
