Daughter of James Rosser Billups and Mary Elsie (Banks) Billups. Mom was named after Elsie Dinsmore from the famous Elsie books by Martha Finley, and her mom.

She played the piano and the ukulele. As a kid, I thought the ukulele was the strangest little baby guitar. I enjoyed her playing. She had fun with it.

She always loved feeding the wild birds. In her retirement years, when she lived in a high-rise building, she would travel downtown just to feed the pigeons.

Mom dropped out of high school when she was a junior. By the time she was 17 both her parents had passed away. Times were tough and life was hard for my mother, but she was a fighter and never gave up.

She never drove a car until she got her license at age 57. After that she finished high school with a GED and started attending college at Western Washington University. She said she wanted to become a lawyer. She never finished that dream, but I was still proud of her. She told me that the students all treated her with respect and looked at her like a second mom.

On her death bed in the nursing home, she laid there in a coma. On the day she died, as my sister Sandy and my wife were out in the hallway, I was the only one in the room with her as she briefly came out of the prolonged unconsciousness. She looked at me and said, "Neil, Jesus is getting me ready." That's the last words she spoke on this earth. It brought comfort to us all. I know I will see my mother again in the land of the living with our friend Jesus Christ. That's real joy and hope eternal.

Mom was a loving mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother.

Mother of 5 children, Carol, Neil, Sandy, Sheldon, and Barbara. She loved the Lord Jesus and tried to be a good witness for Him to her family, friends and neighbors.

Cause Of Death: Lung cancer
