Dorothy M. Hemmer Schoettle 100, Indianapolis, departed this life on Wednesday, October 4, 2006. She was born September 4, 1906 in Cincinnati, but had lived in Indianapolis most of her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Frederick J. Schoettle, who in 1959 was designated by Pope John XXIII as a Knight of St. Gregory for his outstanding lay work in the Catholic Church. Dorothy was a long time member of The Irvington Union Study Club, Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Mark's Catholic Church. She was also one of the founding members of St. Barnabas Catholic Church and has been a member ever since. Her strong religious faith sustained her throughout her life and she remained cheerful and always smiling in spite of an accident she suffered in 2003 from which she never fully recovered and was unable to walk again. She looked forward to her 100th birthday and considered it a personal milestone. Also preceding her in death, were her parents, Serena (Kirkhoff) and Bernard Hemmer; daughter, Loretta Morey; brother Thomas Hemmer; sisters, Anna Mae Kelsch Kilpatrick, Serena Wells, Mary Hemmer, Mildred Burch and Bernadette Yoder. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Patricia (William C.) Farrell; brother, Paul V. (Polly) Hemmer; brother-in-law, Thomas (Josephine) Schoettle; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her family sends many thanks and appreciation to The Forum At The Crossing Healthcare Center for all of their wonderful care and attention while she was with them. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday, October 9, 2006 in St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 8300 Rahke Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46217. Visitation will begin at the church at 11:30 a.m. on Monday and conclude at time of Mass. Entombment Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Parish Endowment Father Sciarra Legacy Society or to St. Augustine Home for the Aged. Arrangements entrusted to Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary.
