James Spencer Hesterly was born on February 28, 1828 in Hall County, Georgia and died March 27, 1898 in Draketown, Haralson County, Georgia; he is buried in the Draketown Cemetery. He married on October 29, 1849 in Carroll County to Mahala Rice who was born on August 15, 1831 in DeKalb County; she died in Haralson County on October 20, 1923. They had seven children. In 1860 James was a carpenter; in 1880 he was a farmer who lived north of Draketown on Allgood Church Road which forks off Green Mud Road. Courtesy Jeanette Hutcheson Graham.

Mahaley was born on August 15 1831, in Sweetwater Creek, De Kalb, Georgia.
They had 12 children: Charley Elisha Hesterley, Mahaley Catherine Walker (born Hestley) and 10 other children.

James Spencer Hestley was born on February 14 1828, in Georgia

James married Mahaley Rice in Carroll, Georgia.
They had 11 children: Charley Elisha Hesterley, M. Catherine Hestley, E. Mary Hestley, M. Alice Hestley, R. Joseph Hestley, John R. Hestley, Georgia Lucinda Hestley, Susanna Elizabeth Hesterley, James Madison Hesterley, Elizabeth Jane Hesterley and Frances Jimmie Hesterley.
James passed away on March 17 1898, at age 70.
