Truman located in Hancock Co., Illinois in 1836, being one of the first settlers, coming by boat down the Ohio and up the Mississippi. Later he became proprietor of the Denver House of Denver, IL. In 1888, a big celebration was held on the 90th anniversary of his birth. At the time his wife had died and only two of his five children survived, Charles Edson Hecox, Canton, MO, and Sallie E., wife of William T. Lemon, Denver, IL.
History of Hancock County, Illinois, Thomas Gregg, 1880 adds that Truman was able to do many kinds of work including wagon-making, and carpentry. He served the county as constable, school director and trustee.
