Elizabeth J. "Betty" Vanderkolk Niccum, 88, of Lafayette, died at St. Elizabeth Central at 4:50 AM Thursday July 11, 2013. Betty was born on the Marshall farm near Montmorenci July 27, 1924 the daughter of the late Cornelius and Mary Robrock Vanderkolk. She attended St. Lawrence Grade School and was a 1942 graduate of St. Francis High School in Lafayette. Betty married Earl E. Niccum at St. Lawrence Church in Lafayette October 12, 1975 and he preceded her in death September 14, 2002.

She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church; the Indiana Employees Retirement Association; the AARP; and was a volunteer at St. Anthony's Healthcare and also served as a pink lady at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Betty had been employed at the American Shropshire Association, and later with Rapp & Klein Co. She then worked for the Indiana Veterans Home as an account clerk for 25 years before her retirement in 1985.

Surviving is a niece, Jane Cox of Lafayette, who was her primary care giver. She is also survived by 22 other nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Cornelius and Bernard Vanderkolk; two sisters, Mary Gick and Rose Anthrop; a stepson, Donald Niccum; and a niece, Janet Taylor.

The Rosary service will be held at 3:45 PM Monday, with visitation from 4 to 7 PM Monday at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church 10:30 AM Tuesday. Father Peter Vanderkolk and Father Dan Gartland officiating, with interment in St. Boniface Cemetery. If friends desire, memorials may be made to the St. Lawrence Church Building Fund or the Lafayette Catholic Schools Foundation.
