John C. Green, The eldest son of Arthur and Nancy Green.He was a farmer,lived at Red Hill, Mitchll Co. NC then joined NC 58th, Co. B on 05-16-1862, Rock Creek, Mitchell Co. NC. Died of Typhold at Big Creek Gap, near Jacksonboro, Tn. on 01-18-1863. His Spouse was Isabella Stewart. They had at least nine children. John was 32 years of age, at 5'& 11.5"Ht.,enrolled in the Confederate Army by Capt. Bowman's NC Partisan Rangers, later Co B 58th NC Inf., and was mustered in by Col. Palmer. John attained the hightes rank of the Green famlies considered here. On Jan. 1,1863 he wrote a requisition for clothing for non-commissioned officers and privates commanded by himself in Capt Bowman's Co. Coats Aug 11 $88.; pants 8/9 $72.; shoes 15/5 $75. " I certify that the above requisition is correct and that the articles spedified are necessary for my company. J.C. Green, Lt. Comdg. Co B.: Whether Lt. Green ever saw his men in new clothing and shoes is unknown. He died on Jan 18,1863 while the 58th was stationed at Jacksboro, Tn. His brother, Sgt. James Green, was a his deathbed. James lived to be 95. After the was, Lt. Green's widow remairred and had several children.
